Re: Assignment 5... Greeting card: Theme - LOVE...

Well, I went and did another greeting card and this is the result:
I wanted to create a feel of a cold heart being warmed by the surroundings and by the splatters of red. So i selected the base colours of blue (cold) and red (warmth), hopefully I am able to convey the message across to whoever is looking at this.

Assignment 5... Greeting card: Theme - LOVE...

We are required to use colours to express love, tenderness etc in a greeting card for this assignment, and this is what i did:

This was one of the most constructive presentation I have had in this module. Had a lot of feedback from the class regarding my work, which now i see as one of my worst. Comments included that the heart was not very clear, that the heart looked like a crowbar, and that i should add texture to the heart,a nd that i was thinking too much into the assignment. Adding to that, the paint splatter was an online stock photo, which utterly made my work redundant since we can't use web stuff for this assignment and practicurly the whole module. So i guess i have to go create another piece for this assignment. But i'll still be sticking to my copy: " We enjoy warmth because we have been cold."

Assignment 4... Save, prevent, kill…: Poster design

For this assignment we are required to come up with a poster that fit into the theme (Saving, Preventing, Killing etc etc..). My first idea was to "Save our Soles", cos i felt that NUS students have to walk too much to get to plces in campus. But i realised the title was rather cheesy/lame/corny (whatever you call it). So i decided to change my topic.

So this is my final design for my poster - "Save Ink". The point of it all being only (Small) text is to capture attention, and to make people read it (other than saving ink). I made most of the text faded to make it seem that the printer has ran out of ink (or something to that effect), but left the essential points untouched to highlight these points.

I decided to settle on this because i realised that whenever i go to AS7 (and other printing places), most of the time there is a queue for printing notes and such. It made me realise that we are actually using alot of ink each day.

So why should we save ink? read the poster.

Assignment 3... U C what I C (Graphic Storytelling)

So the assignment required us to take a maximum of 10 pictures without text and make it into a story, with a twist at the end.
Inspiration for this was when i saw a bottle of expired milk in my fridge.
So the story goes.
Guy feels hungry -> Open Fridge -> Sees Bottle of milk -> Take Milk ->
Pour Milk -> Drink Milk -> Sees that it's expired -> Visit Toilet

Comments were that the pictures were too dark. So i'll be trying to get a better camera to re-take all these photos, and make the last photo clearer ( in meaning).

Assignment 2... Making images talk...

Here's the product of my second assignment, consisting of 5 levels of abstraction of a Mountain.
I gradually removed details from the digital sketch that i made. The final product was an abstract representation of the maountain, which without explanantion would lose its meaning.
I chose the 3rd sketch as my last point where the abstraction process loses meaning, but the class suggested that the 2nd last one should be the chosen one, and so it is decided, since they could tell that it's a mountain.Chosen level of Abstraction

Assignment 1... I Like/Hate...Prototype...

These are the pieces of work that i decided to concentrate on, and the following shows the 2 variations that are required per piece.

Sleep 1

Sleep 2

The following 2 variations show what I hate (Rain).

Rain 1

Rain 2

Assignment 1... I Hate...

The following are my brainstormed ideas for assignment 1, I Hate...

My name is Joon Yong and I Hate Rain...

My first piece was what i might see whern the rain falls on the window, and i treied to make the rain drops form into my name. I also tried to give it a rather 'devilish' look so that i can convey the idea that i hate the rain.

This next idea is when i saw the rain falling onto a puddle. So i tried to incorporate my name in the ripples formed.

This rough tries to portray a scenic representation of my name, where I try to use objects in this scene to spell my name, as well as to portray the depressing mood I feel when it's raining.

This final rough tries to show two faces hiding from the rain, and leaving the 'n' drenched.

Assignment 1.. I Like...

These are my ideas for the 1st assigment...

My Name is Joon Yong and I lIke Sleeping...

*note: I ommitted 'yong' from my name as i tought it was too long.

This is the 1st idea i came up with, trying to create a relaxed feel and incorporate sleeping images into the 'scene'.

This is my second idea, where i tried to use pillows and bolsters to try and spell my name. but i tought it did not express the idea of sleep, so i did not use it.

The third idea i came up with was to try to use a symbol of sleep, i.e a pig, and incorporate my name into it. As with the second idea, I felt that this did not express the idea of sleep, rather it made it sem like i liked pigs.

This was my last idea of my 'likes'. this is one that depicts me dreaming and tries to convey the idea of sleeping. This is the most complex one out of the 4 roughs, which is a deterent for me choosing it 'cos we still need to digitise it.
